About us

Community Mentors is a brand that has been developed by Business In The Community Groupo to represent its increasing activity in providing Mentoring services throughout New Zealand to the wider not-for-profit sector.

In 2014 we launched a pilot for the community sector with four partners collaborating to assist in the development of a dedicated pilot for the Taranaki Region.  The collaborating partners were Bishop’s Action Foundation, The Tindall Foundation, Venture Taranaki and Community Mentors.

The learnings of the pilot have been utilised to develop a dedicated Community Mentoring programme throughout New Zealand to support sustainable and viable charitable and social enterprises.

Co-Founder & Chairman of Trustees, Dr. Grahame Craig and General Manager, Lisa Ford.

Background

First established by a group of leading business people and entrepreneurs in 1991, Business In The Community has assisted a growing number of not-for-profit and social enterprise  organisations seeking mentoring assistance.  To date we have worked with more than 600 not for profit/charitable organisations and are seeing increased demand in this environment.

Our organisation has more than 500 community mentors with charitable experience who volunteer their time to guide, support and develop the fibre of thriving communities.  Failure of these fledging social enterprises will have downstream consequences for families and communities.

Our Trustees are Dr Grahame Craig (Chair of Trustees), Angus Fletcher, Sir William Gallagher, Norman Geary, Tom McClunie, Garry Moore, Sir Ralph Norris and Sir Ken Stevens. Board of Directors are Geoff Vazey (Chairman), Richard Austin, Sandy Moore, and Dame Fran Wilde.
